Each Epson label printer has its own unique advantages when it comes to feed options. And one might suit your label printing needs better than the other.

Smith Corona knows inkjet printing. Our goal is to guarantee you’re making the best choice for your business. And we’re ready to help.

We’re now offering Epson printers with 2 different feed options: peel-and-present and auto cutter

How can you determine the right feed option for you? Picture your perfect inkjet printer. Ask yourself:

  1. How do my labels print?
  2. How do I need to apply them?
  3. Does this printer help my application process?

We’re looking at the differences between the Epson peel-and-present and the Epson auto cutter printers to help you decide!

Peel-And-Present

First, let’s talk about what peel-and-present is.

An Epson peel-and-present printer peels inkjet labels one at a time from the release liner and presents them for immediate application. Hence the name “peel-and-present.” The release liner feeds through a separate slot in front of the printer, where the waste is later thrown away.

And you don’t have to worry about labels rapidly printing one after the other. A sensor in the Epson printer prevents multiple labels from printing at once. The next label won’t print until the first is removed.

Peel-and-present printers are best utilized with die cut inkjet labels. This is because labels must be precut in order to peel properly off the liner.

Depending on the Epson printer model, labels can be printed up to 4” or 8” wide. An 8” wide label is ideal for applications that require larger dimensions to print important information, like drum and hazardous labels.

Why You Should Use A Peel-And-Present Printer

Peel-and-present is a great option for labels that need to be applied quickly and manually.

Think shipping labels being applied on products as they move out of a warehouse. Labels can be taken and immediately applied to products with less downtime. This is thanks to not wasting time trying to remove labels from the release liner.

Peel-and-present can also be used with inkjet label printer accessories, like a roll-to-roll system

Unwinders can support label rolls with a larger outer diameter (OD) for bigger print jobs. Because peel-and-present removes labels from the liner as they print, rewinders take up liner waste instead. Therefore the roll-to-roll system doesn’t rewind rolls of labels, just the release liner.

There are a couple of downsides to peel-and-present printers.

Most notably, when you turn off the peeler mode there isn’t an automatic cutter. So, this means you will need to manually cut or tear in-between each label.

Additionally, users must also deal with excessive liner waste as it exits the printer. If liner isn’t thrown away properly, it creates a slipping hazard in the workplace.

Epson has a couple of options for peel-and-present printers. The Epson ColorWorks C6000P is equipped to handle 4” wide labels while the Epson ColorWorks C6000P is a better choice for applications that need an 8” print width.

Auto Cutter

Now let’s look at what an auto cutter is.

An Epson auto cutter printer cuts labels in a variety of sizes depending on the application. Labels are printed and then cut and separated from the roll at variable lengths. This can be done by users pressing the “cut button” on the operational panel or programming the printer to cut at specific points.

Users have the option to have the auto cutter printer cut:

  • After each label
  • At the end of a small or large batch
  • Not at all

Auto cutter printers can be utilized with die cut or continuous labels. Because continuous labels are one long piece of material on a release liner, the cutter is able to customize different label sizes from the same roll.

Depending on the Epson printer model, labels can be printed up to 4” or 8” wide. An 8” wide label is ideal for applications that require larger dimensions to print important information, like drum and hazardous labels.

Why You should Use An Auto Cutter Printer

Auto cutter is a great option for users looking to cut labels at any size. And it’s ideal for creating labels in a variety of lengths depending on the application.

When compared to buying and using preprinted inkjet labels, an auto cutter printer can help reduce costs and inventory space. That’s because users don’t need to buy and store multiple rolls of labels for different products.

An auto cutter can also be used with inkjet label printer accessories, like a roll-to-roll system.

Unwinders can support label rolls with a larger outer diameter (OD) for bigger print jobs. And because auto cutters can be programmed to not cut, labels can be rewound for manual application or on a label applicator.

However, there are some downsides with auto cutter printers.

Users need to consider the time it will take them to remove labels from the liner. This can make the application process take longer, especially for those done by hand.

Also, users will want to make sure labels are cutting at the correct time or spot. Failure to cut properly can lead to an increased waste of label material.

You have quite a few auto cutter printers to choose from with the ColorWorks models, including:

  • Epson C6000A
  • Epson C6500A
  • Epson C4000
  • Epson C7500 & C7500G
