The core refers to the cardboard cylinder at the center of your label roll. Mobile printers typically use .75" core label rolls.

This type of label comes in a stack. It can be loaded into the back of your desktop (1" core) or industrial (3" core) printer. Many people prefer fanfold labels due to their versatility and their "self stacking" nature when printed in batches.
Perforated labels are typically applied by hand.
Perforation refers to the row of small holes on the liner in between each label that make tearing easier.
Non-perforated labels are typically applied by machine.
Labels with no perforation work best with print and apply applicators as well as printers using peel and present mode.
Continuous labels are one long label that is typically cut by a blade (cutter) on your printer. This allows you to print variable length labels.
Wax ribbons are the right choice when printing on paper labels. This type of ribbon is the most cost effective solution.
Wax resin ribbons are an optimal choice for printing on synthetic materials, such as polypropylene, as well as coated, glossy, matte, or other weatherproof materials.

3" Core Inkjet Labels
3" core labels are utilized in full inkjet printers and offer users the ability to customize labels for their applications, whether it be in business, manufacturing, or industrial settings. Perforated or continuous labels can be used in addition to labels with a black sensing mark. Many inkjet printers support labels with glossy or matte finishes for applications that require different vibrancy or reflectivity levels.
Inkjet printing uses dye or pigment inks to accommodate a variety of synthetic materials and label coatings. Most printer models are only able to print with one ink type. For example, the Canon LX-D5500 is only able to print with dye-based ink, and the Primera LX-2000 can only print with pigment-based ink. However, some printer models, like the Primera LX-910, are able to accommodate both types of ink.
Dye-based inks are less expensive. They are able to produce more vibrant colors when printing as the ink is absorbed into the fiber of the material. Dye-based ink is ideal for printing customer-facing product labels that require colorful text or images.
Pigment-based inks are more resilient when printing. The ink sits on the surface of the material is it printed on and fuses with the fibers. Pigment-based ink is ideal for printing on durable labels like polypropylene and kimdura for GHS and BS 5609 compliance.
